This is how to make a classic street lamp / lantern out of a large
paper square.
I used a self made paper of about 60x60 centimeters for my street
lamps,
both sides of the paper have another color. I used blue en yellow
papers,
other color combinations are also fine, like black and yellow.
Step 1: I
made this large 60x60 cm paper by adding blue papers to yellow
papers.
Fold in half.
Step 6: Pull
/ push the yellow edge upwards a little.
Step 5: Prefold
in half, then prefold both edges to this prefolded centerline.
Step 2: Fold
over the purple line.
Step 4: The
upper folding line is a little above the prefolded line indicated by
the purple arrow.
The other two lines are already prefolded.
Step 3: Prefold
in half, then fold both parts in half two times. Unfold afterwards.
Step 10: Fold
in half
Step 8: Fold
the model into a square tube and glue or tape the edges together,
see purple line.
Step 9: Fold
/ press this part flat.
Step 7: Prefold
the three edges inwards. And fold over the two outer lines.

Step 16: Glue
or tape the two upper edges together.
Step 15: Fold
these two sides towards each other, see purple arrows.
Step 12: Make
a sharp folding line over the upper purple line, keep holding this
part and press it downwards, so the triangle part becomes flat, see
next photo.
Step 11: Fold
the upper part in half one more time and glue/tape the edges of the
lower part together.
Step 14: Glue/tape
the edges on all four parts together, use the prefolded lines of
step 7
Step 13: Open
the base of the lantern, see arrow, to make it more round.
DONE!
