All sorts of paper can be used for origami, as long as it is not to
thick.
I have used coulored A4-paper many times
for making
flowers. In my country it
is sold in many
shops and
the are many different
colors to choose
from.
Sometimes, I use wrapping paper,
but it is a bit difficult
to cut a square piece
of paper out of it.
I made
the patterns for these
papers myself by using
pictures of real flowers
and animals.
I edited
the pictures with a
computer-programm to get
nice patterns to fold with.
I print
these patterns on high
quality copy-paper.
I also
like to use origami-paper
sometimes. It is very thin
paper and nice to fold
with.
